Understanding Our Core Values

  • All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness (2 Tim 3:16). The Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, is the account of how God fulfills His promise to Abram when He said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them. So shall your offspring be” (Gen 15:5) and of how God could count Abram’s belief as righteousness (Gen 15:6). All of Scripture prepares us for the answer to Isaac’s (Abram’s son) question “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” (Gen 22:7). Each of these are answered and fulfilled in the person and work of Jesus of Nazareth. As John the Baptist made clear, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). The Scriptures shows us how God sovereignly works all things for this end. For His Glory and for our joy.

  • Starting with Jethro’s advice to Moses in Exodus 18 and going throughout the book of Acts, God establishes a pattern of gifting a group of men to lead His people. These men are not perfect yet are called to collectively seek the mind of Christ.

  • The Scriptures are full of commandments to “Love the Lord your God” and to “Love one another”. The clearest example is from our Lord Himself when he says that “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depends all the Law and the Prophets” (Matt 22:37-40).

  • Scriptures are clear that we must only worship God in the correct way. At first God gave his people “copies and shadows of the heavenly thing” (Hebrews 8:5) and while these things only hinted at or pointed to “the true form of these realities” (Hebrews 10:1) mishandling them often resulted in death (1 Chr. 13:8-10). Now that God has revealed “the true form” and the “realities” that where only hinted at before it is imperative that we do not turn back to trusting in the shadows and copies. The book of Hebrews makes it clear that it is only through Christ Himself that we have access to worship the Father. It is our goal that all that we do during worship would point our people towards faith in Christ.

  • That the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work (2 Tim 3:17 & Eph 2:10).

  • The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God (Phil 4:6)

Understanding Our Attendant Values

  • We help our members grow personally and in relationship with God and each other through Christian Education, Men’s Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, Church Discipline, Marriage Restoration and more.

  • Our Lord has commanded us to go out and proclaim the good news of His Work (Acts 1:8, Matt 28:16-20). It is our goal to equip and empower our people so that they may be unleashed to boldly go out and fulfill this commandment.

  • Because we have first been loved by God, while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8) and whereas we are to be imitators of God, as beloved children walking in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us (Eph 5:1-2) we are now called to go out and help the hurting around us (Luke 10:25-37)

  • We believe that we are in covenant not only with God but also with one another (Eph 4:25). Part of being in covenant with each other includes bearing one another's burdens (Gal 6:2), being intentional in generational integration (Titus 2:3&4, 2 Tim 2:2), and taking every opportunity to love, understand, and engage each other in our different life circumstances (Psalm 146:9; Colossians 3:11-17; Rev. 7:9-10).

  • Part of equipping and empowering the church includes developing people to plant new churches and ministries. We also support fledgling ministries with time, talent and treasure. This includes participation in Renew Polk, supporting missionaries and other initiatives.

  • As Christians, we believe that everything belongs to God (Psalm 24:1, Phil. 3:8). Rather than owners, we are stewards of his resources. We are committed to the faithful use of our time, talents, and finances on both personal and church-wide levels. We do this not only to glorify the Lord but also to love each other and our neighbors. We don’t give reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor. 9:7). On a personal level, we are committed to Biblically-based financial training, ministry training, and equipping each other so that we may effectively go out and use our God-given talents. As a church, we are committed to using our time together in effective and uplifting ways. Effectiveness is ensured by understanding and communicating whether we are both on target as compared to our plans and faithful to what God has given us.
